Interactive Talk with Mr Shazuan Shiraj

Mr Shazuan Shiraj is a third year Nanyang Polytechnic student pursuing Diploma in Social Work. He is a singer-songwriter and rapper who goes by the stage name ABANGSAPAU. He recently performed at this year’s National Day Parade (NDP) evening show. He was once known as a youth-at-risk after going through being bullied, transferring from the Express to Normal (Academic) stream, changing school and adjusting to a single-parent family situation. Shazuan aims to uplift people by spreading positive energy through his social work and music. He has also been awarded the Lee Kuan Yew Model Student Award and Lee Kwan Yew Gold Medal. He has even given a TEDx talk to inspire others through his journey.

Interactive Workshop with Hush TeaBar

Pause. To reconnect. Guided by facilitators who are hearing impaired. Be immersed in experiential empathy, receiving and giving peer support in a safe place in silence. Do prepare a cup of tea or beverage of your choice, and writing materials.

Hush TeaBar is a social movement that champions self-care, social inclusion and mental wellness in every workplace, school and community, through taking a pause amidst the daily hustle and bustle. To promote inclusion and empowerment, Hush's core team comprises of the Deaf, hearing, and persons with lived mental health experience. Together, Hush aims to build an empathetic, resilient and inclusive society, one cup of tea at a time.

Mr Kevin Wee
​
Mr Kevin Wee runs Rebound with Resilience, a training company committed to raising the resilience and empathy of our nation’s youth. As a social enterprise, they run experiential classroom workshops, and train and work with people with disabilities to conduct talks and training. They also run programmes for schools and organizations. They commit to empower every single student to turn “failure” into mastery and pain into power.

Mr Jonathan Kuek
​
Jonathan Kuek is a doctoral candidate and mental health researcher at the University of Sydney, specializing in recovery approaches to the management and understanding of mental health conditions. He is a published author and serves as a journal reviewer for other peer-reviewed journals. Jonathan is an active mental health advocate, volunteer group leader, and strong believer in youth volunteerism and empowerment. In his free time, he mentors undergraduate psychology students, manages the SG Psych Stuff society as its vice-president, manages public education programs for the Singapore Psychological Society as its deputy chair of the public education team, and provides various forms of support for multiple social service organizations in Singapore.

Interactive Workshop by Resilience Collective

14 October 2020 (Wednesday), 2p.m.-3p.m.
​
The session will centre on "What a Mental Health Crisis can teach you", a video recording of Emmeline sharing her story. Integrated with this will be short polls and surveys, and interactive Q&As.
​
Resilience Collective is a Peer-Powered Platform for Mental Health and Wellness. They actively give a voice to the lived experience, reducing stigma and building a safe space for open discussions around mental illness and recovery, and mental wellness in general. Co-founded by BinjaiTree and Caregivers Alliance Limited, with strong support from the National Council of Social Service and the Institute for Mental Health, they are poised to make a difference in the mental health community. They aim to lead the peer support movement in Singapore, and to equip and empower persons in recovery through education, peer support, and stigma reduction.

Interactive Talk with Ms Law Mei Ting

A 20-minute sharing about Ms Law’s mental health journey and a short interactive Q&A. Catch her recovery story on our website too!

Ms Law Mei Ting is a recipient of The Straits Times Generation Grit Award 2019. She recently completed her degree in Business Management at the University of London and is currently working as a Finance Executive at New Life Community Services. She was sexually abused when she was three years old. She struggled with anger, shame, and a low self-esteem for years. After many years of counselling, she has started to speak up and share about her experiences.
