Watch these videos to find out about the mental health journeys of Mr Shazuan Shiraj, Mr Asher Low and Ms Law Mei Ting. They share about their experiences, how they coped with their struggles and how important building resilience was to them. Keep an eye out for the CODE in the videos by the speakers. Mr Shazuan Shiraj

Mr Shazuan Shiraj is a third year Nanyang Polytechnic student pursuing Diploma in Social Work. He is a singer-songwriter and rapper who goes by the stage name ABANGSAPAU. He recently performed at this year’s National Day Parade (NDP) evening show. He was once known as a youth-at-risk after going through being bullied, transferring from the Express to Normal (Academic) stream, changing school and adjusting to a single-parent family situation. Shazuan aims to uplift people by spreading positive energy through his social work and music. He has also been awarded the Lee Kuan Yew Model Student Award and Lee Kwan Yew Gold Medal. He has even given a TEDx talk to inspire others through his journey.

In this video of his TEDx speech, Mr Shazuan shares details about his journey and about how we can be our own best friend and worst enemy. He talked about how we can change negative circumstances into opportunities for growth for ourselves. Furthermore, he spoke about how we can choose to focus on what we can control because only then will we realise that we are not powerless and that we can work on improving our situation

Mr Asher Low is the founder of Limitless, a charity that reaches out to troubled youth. Limitless empowers youths struggling with mental health issues by providing therapy,counselling and casework services. Since his mid-teens, Mr Asher Low has struggled with body dysmorphic disorder and depression, feeling ugly and worthless. He has since recovered and chose to pursue a degree in social work as he wanted to make an impact on young people. He is also a recipient of The Straits Times Generation Grit Award 2019. In his work with Limitless, he also does training for peers, parents, and educators to be that support for young people struggling with their mental health.

In this video, Mr Asher Low shares about how when he was growing up, he felt short, ugly and never good enough. His body image issues, plus other problems, led to depression and he tried to kill himself. He also talks about how he coped and why he started Limitless

In this next video, Mr Asher Low talks about what you can do to help your friends who are struggling and reminds us that we are not alone in our struggles

Ms Law Mei Ting

Ms Law Mei Ting is a recipient of The Straits Times Generation Grit Award 2019. She recently completed her degree in Business Management at the University of London and is currently working as a Finance Executive at New Life Community Services. She was sexually abused when she was three years old. She struggled with anger, shame, and a low self-esteem for years. After many years of counselling, she has started to speak up and share about her experiences

In this video, Ms Law Mei Ting talks about how she was sexually abused by her mother's boyfriend when she was three years old. She struggled with anger and shame for years and, had low self-esteem. Furthermore, she talks about what motivated to speak up about her past.
